The way that these songs were referenced interested me. This includes a number of Green Day songs (boulevard = Boulevard of Broken Dreams, brainstew = Brain Stew, american = American Idiot, Whatsername) and some Rock Band 1 songs (ballroomblitz = Ballroom Blitz, entersandman = Enter Sandman) There are also a number of songs referenced within strings of text contained within the game’s chart files (.str files) which do not appear in any version of the game. Upon digging around in the files and looking at the setlist in game, there appears to be a massive amount of songs that don’t appear in the final game, including Almost Easy (A7X), Panic Attack (Dream Theater) and a few other early versions of final charts. I was recently given access to the alpha build of the game from late 2008, back before the game was called Rock Band Unplugged and was just called Rock Band 2. It plays alot like it's big brother counterparts on a lot of differrent levels, but adds its own small twists to keep it original at the same time.

The plus side of this is that if you have access to a wi-fi connection, you can go into the Playstation Store and download new songs to your memory card to import to the game (That is if the $1.99 a song isn't too steep for you). To me, the song selection could have been a bit wider, but I'm sure you can only fit so many songs onto one UMD disc. The gameplay is fast paced and somewhat difficult at first, but once you play it for awhile you will fall in love with it. Let me start off by saying that this is an excellent port of a game to a handheld system. While it may not appeal to anyone who isn't used to the more complex entries into the rhythm/music genre (despite its connection to the mainstream monster that is Rock Band itself), the difficulty settings you can choose, and even the helpful beginner tutorial, make this a game that anyone with a genuine interest can pick up and enjoy. You can hear the areas of the track where the instruments shine individually and it's a real treat.

The portability of the PSP format also makes for a great experience with a set of quality headphones in and you just want to get into the game for a short while. The music and track assignment is spot-on, and its good to see some tracks made it in here that were never a part of the original console line-ups. As a big fan of the rhythm/music genre of games, I was excited to find out that Harmonix had collaborated with a smaller developer to condense its Rock Band franchise into a form very similar to another game they developed, Frequency.
